Master Degree Program for International Students

1. Enrollment Majors
There are two models for the Master Degree program in Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM): full time and part time. Generally, courses are taught in Chinese. Some majors are taught in English or Japanese .
For detailed information of the enrollment majors, please see the 2015 Catalog for Master Degree Program at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) (Attachment 1). Applicants can choose tutors listed in the aforementioned Catalog or in the Name Lists of Tutors at SHUTCM . Applicants should submit the Tutor’s Consent Form to Accept International Students for Master Degree Program (Attachment 2), along with the application materials. If applicants have no specific orientation, a tutor can be recommended by the University. In principle, part-time master degree students are limited to majors oriented at scientific research.

3. Eligibility for Application
 Healthy foreign nationals
A bachelor or higher degree
Applicants for programs taught in Chinese must score at least 180 points in HSK Level V exam. There are no minimal Chinese language requirements for those who apply for programs taught in English or Japanese. Non-native English speakers must score at least 90 points in TOEFL exam or 6.5 points in IELTS exam.
4. Application Materials

   Download and fill in the Application Form for International Students to Study Master Degree Program at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Attachment 3).
   Download and ask the tutor to fill in the Consent Form to Accept International Students for Master Degree Program. 

   A copy of the passport.
   Two recent ID photos (one for application form and one for interview notice).
   Photocopy of the highest diploma; studying certificate for undergraduate student and copy of the academic degree upon admission; those who completed undergraduate study or are studying in overseas colleges should submit additional notarial certificate. Certificates in other languages need to be translated into Chinese or English, coupled with a notarial certificate of the translation.
   Copy or notarial certificate of transcripts for undergraduate (or higher) education. Transcripts in other languages need to be translated into Chinese or English, coupled with a notarial certificate of the translation.
   Copy of the HSK, TOEFL or IELTS examination results.
 Applicants for full-time Master degree program need to submit a Confidential Recommendation Form supplied by an associate professor or higher professional title (see Application Form for International Students to Study Master Degree Program at Shanghai University of Traditional     Chinese Medicine). Applicants for part-time Master degree program need to submit two     Confidential Recommendation Forms (see the above-mentioned Application Form). The Confidential Recommendation Form can be filled in Chinese or English.
  Academic papers or achievements (if you have).
  Payment proof of the application fee (1,700 RMB)
   The aforementioned materials need to be delivered or sent by the applicant or someone else entrusted in person to the Admission Office, International Education College, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine before the application deadline. Please mark ‘Application materials for Master Degree Program’ on your envelop. The application will not be processed if the materials are incomplete or sent by email. If necessary, applicants may need to submit supplementary materials. The application materials will not be returned regardless of the final result of application.
    Please bring original copies of relevant materials for registration. The University reserves the right to dismiss students whose original copies are not consistent with application materials.

7. Fee
    Tuition
Full-time master degree program taught in Chinese: 34000RMB per year;
Part-time master degree program taught in Chinese: 51000RMB per year;
Full-time master degree program taught in English/Japanese: 51000RMB per year;
Part-time master degree program taught in English/Japanese: 60000RMB per year;
Tuition fee covers lectures, clinical internship, tutor instruction and thesis review.
    Accommodation
Live on campus: Single room in university dormitory: 1,400-1,600 RMB/month; Double room (for 2 students): 800 RMB/month (the accommodation fee may fluctuate).
Live off-campus: Students can live off-campus upon approval by the University and pay on your own.
    Application fee (including examination fee): 1,700 RMB.
8. Scholarship and Student Assistance Fund


Chinese Government Scholarship
The tuition, medical insurance, on-campus accommodation and living expense shall be delivered according to the Regulations on Management of Chinese Government Scholarship by International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Ministry of Education. For detailed information, please contact the Admission Office, International Education College (see clause 13 for ‘Contact Us’).
    Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for international students
Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for international students shall be delivered according to relevant documents including Trial Regulations on Management of Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students.
    SHUTCM Student Assistance Fund for international students of Master degree program
For detailed information, please see the Implementing Regulations on Management of Student Assistance Fund for International Students of Master Degree Program (Attachment 4).

9. The Entrance Qualification Verification and Interview
The application qualification needs to be verified by the University. Upon verification, the applicants shall proceed with the interview. The entrance interview for Master degree program can be done face-to-face, by telephone or online. Applicants need to fill in the Intent to Interview Form for International Students Who Study Master Degree Program at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Interview Notice will be sent by the Admission Office, International Education College, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
10. Enrollment
The final enrollment will be based on application materials, interview results and comprehensive evaluation by tutors. The Admission Notice and the JW202 Form will be sent to applicants in middle June.
11. Registration
Students who are accepted shall apply student visa (X1 visa) to Chinese embassy/consulate in your home countries with your passport, Admission Notice and JW 202 Form. Upon visa approval, please register on the designated time specified in Admission Notice. Students who only submitted school attendance certificate shall then supply the original or copy of the academic degree; otherwise, the qualification for matriculation will be cancelled.
12. Academic degree and diploma
A diploma of postgraduate (Master Degree) graduation shall be awarded to students who have successfully completed all degree courses, written the academic dissertation and passed the Q&A session by the University Academic Degree Evaluation Committee according to the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Academic Degrees.
